Yes, yes, I know, there isn’t a whole lot of ‘healthy’ in these cakes.  Unless you count that each of these cakes gave me a little ‘me time’ when making them.  They gave me something else to focus on besides all things kids.  Besides, cake can be a part of a healthy life style – the trick is finding the right balance!  In the meantime, enjoy!

Next up?  Butterfly Cup Cakes for a 5 year old’s birthday party at a butterfly conservatory.

Most recent additions

These were made for a birthday party for a 5 year old.  They were so cute – and so delish if I do say so myself!  It was a butterfly theme so I cut some edible butterflies and flowers to top them.  They are chocolate and vanilla with chocolate and vanilla buttercream icing.  The chocolate cupcakes had a yummy raspberry puree filling.

This cake is covered in modeling chocolate and the trains are modeling chocolate cut outs.  It was my first attempt at using chocolate like this and let’s just say I have a laundry list of how I will do it differently next time.  All things considered, it’s not too bad for a first try I think.

This isn’t a stellar shot of this cake but it’s the best I could come up with as I’m still dealing with my crashing computer.  This cake was a bit of a collaborative effort. The only things on this cake that are not cake are the figurines, the candle and the Mickey Mouse head.  Can I just tell you how difficult it was to cover the boot?

What A Journey!

I mde this one for a 70th birthday party.  The cottage is a replica of his cottage and the ‘road signs’ each indicate some of the biggest events in his life and special vacation spots.

C is for Cookie!

This was my first attempt at both fondant (home made no less!) and building a 3-D cake. After this one, I was hooked! I made this for my little monster’s 2nd birthday party and it was a big hit.

Massey Ferguson 1085

This was a cake for a 75th birthday celebration. A lot of fun to make, but very time intensive.

Noah’s Ark

This one was for a baptism and was a huge hit. It’s just so cute. I actually got the ‘how to’ for this one from Debbie Brown’s 50 Easy Party Cakes.

Fun with Pretty

I made these for an annual Mother’s Day Pedi Date. They were a bit of an experiment so I could try doing the daisys with piped chocolate and the icing is my new ‘go to’ recipe – it was yummy!

These cupcakes were made for a birthday party for a 5 year old.  They were so cute – and so delish if I do say so myself!  She had a butterfly theme so I cut butterflies and flowers to put on there along with pearl sugar-balls (pearl being her birthstone).  She requested chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with chocolate and vanilla buttercream icing.  The chocolate cupcakes had a yummy raspberry puree in the centre.

Sliders or Cupcakes?

I made this for our annual BBQ last year and they were a big hit with the kids. They were super easy, I’ll be making them again sometimes I’m sure!

A Train Cake Out of Chocolate?  Does it get any better?

Buttercream Special

This cake was for a 50th birthday celebration.  The wife is not a fan of fondant so I did a buttercream transfer replica of an old Jerry Garcia album when he was part of a band called ‘Old & In The Way’.

This was my cake for the recent Wilton course I took.  Buttercream with royal icing flowers.  It’s pretty old school – I’m not sure when I’ll ever do a basket weave again – but now I can say I know how.
